cry Hygrometer faulty?
Hi -I think my hygrometer is broken - the needle seems stuck at about 70%, and no matter what it doesn't drop down or increase.

I think I've seen a post saying that they can be a bit temperamental - is that right, should I buy a new one - or can I fix it?

Thanks!

RE: Hygrometer faulty?
They are indeed not to be trusted: I have two in my tat and one reads 20% above the other. Which one is right, if either, I have no idea.
As long as the substrate is damp, including on the surface, at the warm end, water will be evaporating from it and humidity should be good to high. If you get a new hygrometer, I think there is a method of calibrating it involving sealing it in a jar with damp salt (can't remember details but is online somewhere).

RE: Hygrometer faulty?
I've posted a few times how you can calibrate it. You can also google for instructions "calibrate hygrometer". Basically, if you put it in a sealed container with some saturated salt and leave it a few hours, it should read 75%. I think that's right, it's a while since I did it.

RE: Hygrometer faulty?
Is a digital one expensive? And does it take batteries? Since adding a moonlight strip I've so many things plugged in with the TV etc I really don't want to add any more.
Oh, and how do you get those little round ones off the tat wall without breaking anything?

Yeah, what I was going to ask! I might just buy a new analogue one for a few quid. Would still welcome a calibration guide though insx!

Actually I suppose I could peel off the one I have, calibrate it, then stick it back with those sticky pads as mentioned in a previous post. Might be cheaper!

thanks guys

can members please remember not to post comments which i have highlighted above
yes some hygrometers can need calibrating but a vast majority do work without problems, we ourselves are using the same ones we have been using for almost 4 years like many others have
thanks for your understanding
