Like the title says, was isnt safe to put in the tank, what wood, what food or anything else i should have near them or in with them?
nothing metallic, there are some types of wood that aren't safe so i will just double check before I tell you which ones,
because of hermies eyes, they cannot look down to see where they are going so if you have any ledges it is recommended you have something to prevent them dropping from height like nets or ladders etc,,, will just go double check on the wood for you x
Hi Am back, i should trust my self i was right but no harm in double checking i guess!! wood like cedar or pine is toxic to crabs so should not be used, nor lucky bamboo or ever greens,

interestingly i just read lego is good as a climbing toy, but i guess that depends on how you want your crabitat to look,

foodwise they are scavengers and will eat anything they come across in nature, its important to wash their food as it may have pesticides on it, and to ensure as far as you can, no spices/salt

pesticides has just reminded me, try to ensure fly spray or anything like it can't enter your crabitat either, hermies are as vulnerable to it as the bugs!

Hope that helped a bit?
sure there is more, others will add on!
I read somewhere love, that fumes from outside can harm them too moonchild love, so watch you close the windows if your killing your weeds love :goodone:
Good question moonchild.

You should never put tap water that hasn't been treated in.

no aluminum and no Teflon.

Much like with parrots, Fumes from overheated Teflon pans are definitely very toxic.

While it is true that crabs are scavengers with a wide repertoire of foods they can eat, there
are many plants and foods that just should not be fed to a crab. The foods on this list are to
be avoided. Some are toxic, some are insect repellents or used as insecticides, and some the crabs
just won't go near, such as lemon -- lemon won't hurt them, but they certainly won't eat it.

This list, like the Edible List, will be updated regularly, so be sure to check back often.

Adulterants and Additives

What follows is a list of ingredients added to commercial and processed foods that may harm hermit crab health when fed. While I believe that these substances should be avoided, there is no actual scientific proof that these are harmful. This list is being compiled as a guide to dietary harm reduction. The key to good diet, in crabs, other pets, and people, is informed label reading.

As new additives are brought to my attention, this list will be edited. Check back frequently.
