the different oils help to soften some of the dried things like the silk worms etc, and offer vital nutrients for optimum conditioning , the safest rule of thumb is to look for organic and natural foods, that way with variety you know their needs are being met.
there is a link in the diet section to the epicurean safe foods list and of course the ab crab store is a good starting point!!!
thanks for that dee will the natural olives in there own oil be ok to give them?

Hi folks! It's been a while! I have just gotten Vicki's sprouting mix #4 and I swear I'm an idiot and poor Vicki is just too busy for me to pound her with all my stupid questions. So you're the lucky recipients!! Here we go: 1) Do I have to grow the sprouts in earthworm castings or can I use regular potting soil? 2) Since I want the re-seeders to re-seed I'll grow them in bigger pots, so - how do I give the crabs the sprouts? Just cut them and offer them that way? Won't they dry out and die quickly? 3) am I the idiot I seem to be?

hi mornstar how are you? good to see you back!! you are best growing your seeds in the earthworm castings, but i believe you can use organic potting soil (if you have organic substrate they grow as well in that!) you can cut them feed them that way however i grow the sprouts in a pot in the tat, the hermies do some damage but there is often enough left to actually yield sprouts , that said i have ramdom sprouts growning all over after the enjoyed their bit of gardening lol!! when the pot is spent i just sprinkle more seeds on and it all starts again, if they have eaten a lot of the worm castings (they like it) i top it up or replace it hope that helps

@ Mornstar i use a large shell pop in the castings and the seeds and grow the sprouts out of my large shell in the tat! just another idea of something you can try

Is it ok to put a couple of live worms in the tat to provide fresh casts, or is that a crazy idea
